Fields of interest:
Within the last few year dramatic advances in information and communication technology have led to increased adoption of Electronic Commerce business models. Especially the WWW has give the general public an
opportunity to take an active part in internet-based business transactions. Even though today the majority of successful business ventures is in business to business (B2B) transactions, my main interest are the
business to consumer (B2C) transactions.
In Electronic Retailing, i.e. initiating sales transactions on the Web in combination with physical delivery of products, only part of the value chain is digitised. The focus of my attention is on Digital Commerce,
in which all aspects of the transaction are fully digitised. This is only achievable when dealing with digital products or services.
2. Retailing
The vendors of business standard software, i.e. ERP systems, have almost totally neglected the retail and wholesale sector until
about five years ago. One of the common approaches was that a retail business is the same as a producer, only easier, because there
is no production. A few unsuccessful tries to implement the standard ERP systems has made it obvious that this is not the case.
At the Department of Information Systems of the WWU Muenster we have therefore developed a reference model for retail
information systems (RIS). This reference models give detailed information about the necessary functions, the processes performed
and the data models, which are necessary to set up a functioning RIS. The retail-H-model was developed as a structural framework.
